It's Almost Friday....

Yesterday I went over, again. I got into a serious Funk after work, had a lot of stuff on my mind and got into a stupid argument with Monkey to boot. Needless to say, I decided to turn to some snacking to keep my mind occupied and my tummy full. Oh well, today I get to start fresh again with my pnts, so we'll see how it goes.

I work in Customer Service. I have clients calling all the time to complain about this and that, ragging about things that make no sense. Clients who act as though my soul job is to sit there and wait for their single call, as if they are the only ones in the universe, and even though they waited until the LAST possible second to ask for something - I should be all over it. I have clients who talk to me as though they are Kings/Queens, and I am the dirt below their feet. The reason I tell you all of this is not to complain - I'm simply stating fact.

Because of my job, and the people I deal with, I try to keep that in mind when I call somewhere and expect customer service. I try to be patient, understanding. I still want to be helped, but I understand I'm not the only one left on the planet. I expect good customer service, but I understand mistakes are made, and can be fixed. I rarely, if ever, raise my voice - even if I am becoming increasingly frustrated with the person on the other end of the phone. The only exception to all of this is if you are a bullshitter, or you're rude. Then I am not so understanding, or patient. But I still don't yell.

Some of my co-workers are not this way. It's almost like b/c people call into the office to treat them like crap, they feel they owe the same to others when they are out at a restaurant, shopping, calling a company for customer service, etc. They are rude, demanding and have zero tolerance for mistakes. They want something for nothing, and get upset and rude when they don't get what they want.

I listen to it, and honestly.. just cannot believe my ears. I've seen these same people break down in tears at their desks, upset because they've made a mistake on a clients file. I've seen them offended because of the way someone speaks to them, stressed because of the work loads on their desk and wishing they could get a break.

Am I crazy? Does nobody believe in the 3-Fold Rule?

Whatever energy a person puts out into the world,
be it positive or negative,
will be returned to that person three times.

  1. Becca - I know what you're talking about. I have worked in the service industry; not exactly what you do (think Starbucks, and now... being a nurse...), and know what it's like to have people be completely rude, inconsiderate, and demanding. I also try to take what I've learned and dealt with and try NOT to treat others in this type of industry as I have been treated. Gahh, sometimes I just want to yell at someone over something that has gone wrong (think phone companies!). But I always try to remember that THAT ONE person, is not the one at fault, they are the ones that are going to try to help me!
    Great post miss :)
